حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَن إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَن أَخِيهِ عَن أَبِي بُرْدَةَ عَن أَبِي مُوسَى قَالَ قَدِمَ رَجُلَانِ مِنْ
الْأَشْعَرِيِّينَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فَجَعَلَا يُعَرِّضَانِ بِالْعَمَلِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ أَخْوَنَكُمْ عِنْدِي مَنْ يَطْلُبُهُ

English Translation
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī narrated to us, Sufyān narrated to us, from Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid, from his brother, from Abū Burdah, from Abū Mūsā, who said: Two men from the Ashʿarīs came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and they began hinting at wanting positions. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The most treacherous among you in my view is the one who seeks it (authority).'
