English Translation
Abū Saʿīd, the freed slave of Banū Hāshim, narrated to us, he said: Zāʾidah narrated to us, he said: ʿAbd al-Malik — meaning Ibn ʿUmayr — narrated to us, from Abū Burdah ibn Abī Mūsā, from his father who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fell ill and said: 'Tell Abū Bakr to lead the people in prayer.' Then he mentioned the hadith. And Abū Saʿīd narrated to us, he said: Zāʾidah narrated to us, he said: ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr narrated to us, from Abū Burdah ibn Abī Mūsā, from his father who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fell ill, and his illness grew severe. He said: 'Tell Abū Bakr to lead the people in prayer.' ʿĀʾishah said: O Messenger of Allah, Abū Bakr is a tender-hearted man; when he stands in your place, he will not be able to lead the people in prayer. He said: 'Tell Abū Bakr to lead the people in prayer, for you are like the female companions of Yūsuf.' So the messenger went to him, and he led the people in prayer during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
