Abdul-Malik ibn Umair al-Lakhmi al-Qurashi al-Kufi was a long-lived Tabi'i scholar of Kufa who narrated from many companions and senior Tabi'in. He is notable for having lived through multiple generations, allowing him to transmit from figures as early as the companions and continue teaching until the era of those who would narrate to al-Bukhari's own teachers. Among those he narrated from were Jabir ibn Samurah, al-Mughira ibn Shu'ba, Jariya ibn Qudama, and others, may Allah be pleased with them. He was known as a skilled and eloquent orator in addition to being a hadith narrator. Hadith scholars generally considered him trustworthy, though some noted that his memory declined in his old age — a condition called ikhtilat that scholars carefully documented to distinguish his earlier reliable narrations from his later ones. His narrations appear in all six major hadith collections. He served as a judge in Kufa toward the end of his life. He reportedly lived to approximately 103 years, dying around 136 AH, and is one of the longest-lived Tabi'in whose narrations are in the canonical collections.
