Hadith #156

English Translation

Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us: Shu‘bah narrated to us. And Hajjāj said: Shu‘bah informed us. He said: I heard Abū Jamrah say: I heard Zahdam ibn Mudarrib. Hajjāj said in his narration: Zahdam came to me in my house and narrated to me. He said: I heard ‘Imrān ibn Husayn narrating that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: The best of you are my generation, then those who follow them, then those who follow them, then those who follow them. ‘Imrān said: I do not know whether the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said after his own generation two times or three. Then after them there shall be people who testify without being asked to testify, who betray and are not trusted, who make vows and do not fulfill them, and obesity shall appear among them. Hajjāj said: Shu‘bah informed us, he said: I heard Abū Jamrah saying: Zahdam came to me in my house and narrated to me. He said: I heard ‘Imrān ibn Husayn narrating that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: The best of you are my generation — and he mentioned the same, except that he said: who betray and are not trusted.
