English Translation

Muḥammad ibn Kathīr, the brother of Sulaymān ibn Kathīr, narrated to us, Jaʿfar ibn Sulaymān narrated to us, from ʿAwf, from Abū Rajāʿ al-ʿUṭāridī, from ʿImrān: A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: ‘Al-salāmu ʿalaykum.’ He returned the greeting, then the man sat down. He said: ‘Ten.’ Then another came and said: ‘Al-salāmu ʿalaykum wa raḥmatu Allāh.’ He returned the greeting, then the man sat down. He said: ‘Twenty.’ Then another came and said: ‘Al-salāmu ʿalaykum wa raḥmatu Allāhi wa barakātuh.’ He returned the greeting, then the man sat down. He said: ‘Thirty.’ Hawdhah narrated to us from ʿAwf, from Abū Rajāʿ as a mursal report, and likewise he said.
