Hadith #397
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَ
ا عَوْفٌ قَالَ وَحَدَّثَنِي رَجُلٌ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ سَمُرَةَ يَخْطُبُ عَلَى مِنْبَرِ الْبَصْرَةِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ الْمَرْأَةَ خُلِقَتْ مِنْ ضِلْعٍ وَإِنَّكَ إِنْ تُرِدْ إِقَامَةَ الضِّلْعِ تَكْسِرْهَا فَدَارِهَا تَعِشْ بِهَا

English Translation
Muḥammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, ‘Awf narrated to us, who said: A man narrated to me, saying: I heard Samurah delivering a sermon on the pulpit of Baṣrah, saying: I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ saying: “Woman was created from a rib. If you try to straighten her, you will break her. So deal with her gently and you will live with her [in harmony].”
