English Translation

Abū Mu‘āwiyah narrated to us, al-Ḥajjāj narrated to us, from Qatādah, from al-Ḥasan, from Samurah ibn Jundub, who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: “Kill the elders of the polytheists and spare their youth.” ‘Abd Allāh said: I asked my father about the interpretation of this hadith ‘Kill the elders of the polytheists.’ He said: It means the elder is unlikely to accept Islam, whereas the young man is closer to accepting Islam. He said: al-Sharkh means the youth.
