English Translation

It was narrated from Abū al-Rabāb who said: I heard Maʿqil ibn Yassār say: We were with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey of his. We stopped in a place that had much garlic, and some of the Muslims ate from it. Then they came to the place of prayer to pray with the Prophet ﷺ and he forbade them from it. Then they came again to the place of prayer and he forbade them from it. Then they came again and he forbade them from it. Then they came again, and he detected the smell from them, and said: ‘Whoever eats from this plant, let him not come near our mosque.’ [A second chain via Yūnus ibn Muḥammad → al-Ḥakam ibn Abī al-Qāsim al-Ḥanafī (Abū ʿAzzah al-Dabbāgh) → Abū al-Rabāb → Maʿqil ibn Yassār:] He said: We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey of his — and he mentioned the same meaning. [A third chain via Abū Saʿdī, client of Banū Hāshim → Abū Yaʿqūb Isḥāq ibn ʿUthmān → Ḥumrān (or Ḥamdān), client of Maʿqil ibn Yassār → Maʿqil ibn Yassār:] He said: I accompanied the Prophet ﷺ for such and such [a time].
