حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى قَالَ ثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ قَالَ ثَنَا مَنْصُورُ بْنُ الْمُعْتَمِرِ عَن أَبِي وَائِلٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو مُوسَى سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ أَوْ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَالِسٌ مُنَكِّسٌ رَأْسَهُ فَقَالَ مَا الْقِتَالُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَإِن
َّ أَحَدَنَا يُقَاتِلُ حَمِيَّةً وَغَضَبًا فَلَهُ أَجْرٌ قَالَ فَرَفَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَأْسَهُ إِلَيْهِ وَلَوْلَا أَنَّهُ كَانَ قَائِمًا أَوْ كَانَ قَاعِدًا الشَّكُّ مِنْ زُهَيْرٍ مَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَنْ قَاتَلَ لِتَكُونَ كَلِمَةُ اللَّهِ هِيَ الْعُلْيَا فَهُوَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

English Translation
Ḥasan ibn Mūsā narrated to us, he said: Zuhayr narrated to us, he said: Manṣūr ibn al-Muʿtamir narrated to us, from Abū Wāʾil who said: Abū Mūsā said: A man asked — or a man came to — the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting with his head lowered. He said: What is fighting in the cause of Allah عز وجل? For one of us fights out of zealotry and anger — is there reward for him? He said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his head toward him — and had it not been that the man was standing, or had he been sitting — the doubt is from Zuhayr — he would not have raised his head toward him. He said: ‘Whoever fights so that the word of Allah is supreme, then he is in the cause of Allah.’
