English Translation
Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd narrated to us, ʿAwf narrated to us, Abū al-Minhāl narrated to me. He said: I went with my father to Abū Barzah al-Aslamī. My father said to him: Tell us how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray the obligatory prayers. He said: He used to pray the Ẓuhr — which you call the first prayer — when the sun began to decline. He would pray ʿAṣr and one of us could return to his place in Madīnah while the sun was still high. He said: I forgot what he said about Maghrib. He preferred to delay ʿIshāʾ, and he disliked sleeping before it and talking after it. He would finish the Fajr prayer when a person could recognize his companion sitting next to him, and he used to recite between sixty and one hundred verses in it.
