حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنَ سُوَيْدٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مُطَرِّفَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيرِ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ
رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ كَانَ بِالْكُوفَةِ أَمِيرٌ قَالَ فَخَطَبَ يَوْمًا فَقَالَ إِنَّ فِي إِعْطَاءِ هَذَا الْمَالِ فِتْنَةً وَفِي إِمْسَاكِهِ فِتْنَةً وَبِذَلِكَ قَامَ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي خُطْبَتِهِ حَتَّى فَرَغَ ثُمَّ نَزَلَ

English Translation
It was narrated from a man who was a riding companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was riding behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the donkey stumbled, so he said: 'The devil perish!' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Do not say 'the devil perish,' for if you say that the devil grows and boasts and says: 'By my power I knocked him down.' Say instead: 'In the name of Allah,' for when you say that the devil shrinks until he becomes like a fly.'
