English Translation

It was narrated from Jabir ibn Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with him) that he came to the Prophet ﷺ and found him sitting with his companions. He asked which of them was the Prophet ﷺ, and was shown him. He found the Prophet wearing a garment with its fringe falling on his feet. He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I am rough in manner; teach me something.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Fear Allah, do not belittle any act of goodness even if it is pouring from your bucket into the vessel of one seeking water, and beware of arrogance, for Allah does not love arrogance. If a man abuses you and exposes a fault in you that he knows is true, do not abuse him back for a fault you know is in him — the reward will be yours and the sin will be his. And do not revile anyone.'
