حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ بُجْدَانَ عَنْ أَبِي زَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْنَ أَظْهُرِ دِيَارِنَا فَوَجَدَ قُتَارًا فَقَالَ مَنْ هَذَا الَّذِي ذَبَحَ قَالَ فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ مِنَّا فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ
اللَّهِ كَانَ هَذَا يَوْمٌ الطَّعَامُ فِيهِ كَرِيهٌ فَذَبَحْتُ لِآكُلَ وَأُطْعِمَ جِيرَانِي قَالَ فَأَعِدْ قَالَ لَا وَالَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ مَا عِنْدِي إِلَّا جَذَعٌ مِنْ الضَّأْنِ أَوْ حَمَلٌ قَالَهَا ثَلَاثَ مِرَارٍ قَالَ فَاذْبَحْهَا وَلَا تُجْزِئُ عَنْ أَحَدٍ بَعْدَكَ

English Translation
It was narrated from Abu Zayd al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed through our dwellings and caught the scent of roasting meat. He asked: 'Who is the one who slaughtered?' A man among us came out and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, it was a day when food was scarce, so I slaughtered in order to eat and feed my neighbours.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Feed and do not retain' — or words to that effect.
