Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ أَبُو نُصَيْرَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَسِيب
ٍ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَتَانِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام بِالْحُمَّى وَالطَّاعُونِ فَأَمْسَكْتُ الْحُمَّى بِالْمَدِينَةِ وَأَرْسَلْتُ الطَّاعُونَ إِلَى الشَّامِ فَالطَّاعُونُ شَهَادَةٌ لِأُمَّتِي وَرَحْمَةٌ لَهُمْ وَرِجْسٌ عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ

English Translation
It was narrated from Abu 'Asib, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Jibril (peace be upon him) came to me with fever and plague. I kept the fever in Medina and sent the plague to Syria. Plague is martyrdom for my ummah and a mercy to them, but a torment upon the disbelievers.'
