Hadith #422

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ أَخْبَرَنَا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ قَالَتْ أَتَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَنَحْنُ نَغْسِلُ ابْنَتَهُ عَلَيْهَا السَّلَام فَقَالَ اغْسِلْنَهَا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ ذَلِكَ بِمَاءٍ وَسِدْرٍ وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ كَافُورًا أَوْ شَيْئً
ا مِنْ كَافُورٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَآذِنَّنِي قَالَتْ فَلَمَّا فَرَغْنَا آذَنَّاهُ فَأَلْقَى إِلَيْنَا حَقْوَهُ وَقَالَ أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ قَالَ وَقَالَتْ حَفْصَةُ قَالَ اغْسِلْنَهَا وِتْرًا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ سَبْعًا قَالَ وَقَالَتْ أُمُّ عَطِيَّةَ مَشَطْنَاهَا ثَلَاثَةَ قُرُونٍ
English Translation
It was narrated from Umm 'Atiyya al-Ansariyya (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to them while they were washing his daughter. He said: 'Wash her three times, or five, or more than that if you see fit, with water and lote-leaves. Place camphor or something of camphor in the last washing. When you are done, inform me.' When they finished, they informed him and he gave them his waist-wrapper and said: 'Wrap her in it.'
