سَنَةَ ثَمَانٍ وَعِشْرِينَ وَمِئَتَيْنِ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا مِسْعَرُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ الْجَرْمِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ سَلِمَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّهُمْ وَفَدُوا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمَّا أَرَادُوا أَنْ يَنْصَرِفُوا قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَنْ يَؤُمُّنَا قَالَ أ
َكْثَرُكُمْ جَمْعًا لِلْقُرْآنِ أَوْ أَخْذًا لِلْقُرْآنِ قَالَ فَلَمْ يَكُنْ أَحَدٌ مِنْ الْقَوْمِ جَمَعَ مِنْ الْقُرْآنِ مَا جَمَعْتُ قَالَ فَقَدَّمُونِي وَأَنَا غُلَامٌ فَكُنْتُ أَؤُمُّهُمْ وَعَلَيَّ شَمْلَةٌ لِي قَالَ فَمَا شَهِدْتُ مَجْمَعًا مِنْ جَرْمٍ إِلَّا كُنْتُ إِمَامَهُمْ وَأُصَلِّي عَلَى جَنَائِزِهِمْ إِلَى يَوْمِي هَذَا

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Amr ibn Salima, from his father, that they came as a delegation to the Prophet ﷺ and when they wished to leave, they said: 'O Messenger of Allah, who should lead us in prayer?' He said: 'Whoever among you has memorised the most Quran or taken the most of the Quran.' He said: There was no one among the people who had memorised from the Quran what I had memorised, though I was young, so they sent me forward to lead them, and I led them in prayer wearing a short garment.
