Chain of Narration (Isnad)

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ قَالَ خَالِدٌ الْحَذَّاءُ أَخْبَرَنِي عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَلِمَةَ قَالَ كَانَتْ تَأْتِينَا الرُّكْبَانُ مِنْ قِبَلِ رَسُولِ اللّ

َهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَنَسْتَقْرِئُهُمْ فَيُحَدِّثُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِيَؤُمَّكُمْ أَكْثَرُكُمْ قُرْآنًا

English Translation

It was narrated that they used to go and ask those who came from the expeditions, and they would narrate that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Put forward the one among you who knows the most Quran to lead you in prayer.' So they always put forward whoever had memorised the most.
