حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ أَخْبَرَنَا

يُونُسُ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ سَهْلٌ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ وَكَانَ قَدْ أَدْرَكَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ ابْنُ خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ فِي زَمَانِهِ حَدَّثَنِي أُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ الْفُتْيَا الَّتِي كَانُوا يَقُولُونَ الْمَاءُ مِنْ الْمَاءِ رُخْصَةٌ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَخَّصَ بِهَا فِي أَوَّلِ الْإِسْلَامِ ثُمَّ أَمَرَنَا بِالِاغْتِسَالِ بَعْدَهَا

English Translation

It was narrated from Ubayy ibn Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that the ruling that they used to give — that water is only required when there is discharge — was a concession that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave for a time, but then he commanded the full bath.
