حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ عَبْدةَ وَعَاصِمٍ عَنْ زِرٍّ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِأُبَيٍّ إِنَّ أَخَاكَ ي

Body (Matn)

َحُكُّهُمَا مِنْ الْمُصْحَفِ فَلَمْ يُنْكِرْ قِيلَ لِسُفْيَانَ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَلَيْسَا فِي مُصْحَفِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ كَانَ يَرَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُعَوِّذُ بِهِمَا الْحَسَنَ وَالْحُسَيْنَ وَلَمْ يَسْمَعْهُ يَقْرَؤُهُمَا فِي شَيْءٍ مِنْ صَلَاتِهِ فَظَنَّ أَنَّهُمَا عُوذَتَانِ وَأَصَرَّ عَلَى ظَنِّهِ وَتَحَقَّقَ الْبَاقُونَ كَوْنَهُمَا مِنْ الْقُرْآنِ فَأَوْدَعُوهُمَا إِيَّاهُ

English Translation

It was narrated from Ubayy ibn Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that Ibn Masud used to erase the Mu'awwidhatain from his copy of the Quran. He did not consider them part of the Quran because he saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ use them as incantations for al-Hasan and al-Husayn.
