Hadith #112
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ حَدَّثَنَا حُصَيْنٌ عَنْ أَبِي ظِبْيَانَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أُسَامَةَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ يُحَدِّثُ قَالَ بَعَثَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى الْحُرَقَةِ مِنْ جُهَيْنَةَ قَالَ فَصَبَّحْنَاهُمْ فَقَاتَلْنَاهُمْ فَكَانَ مِنْهُمْ رَجُلٌ إِذَا أَقْبَلَ الْقَوْمُ كَانَ مِنْ أَشَدِّهِمْ عَلَيْنَا وَإِذَا أَدْبَرُوا كَانَ حَامِيَتَهُمْ قَالَ فَغَشِيت
ُهُ أَنَا وَرَجُلٌ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ قَالَ فَلَمَّا غَشِينَاهُ قَالَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ فَكَفَّ عَنْهُ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ وَقَتَلْتُهُ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا أُسَامَةُ أَقَتَلْتَهُ بَعْدَمَا قَالَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّمَا كَانَ مُتَعَوِّذًا مِنْ الْقَتْلِ فَكَرَّرَهَا عَلَيَّ حَتَّى تَمَنَّيْتُ أَنِّي لَمْ أَكُنْ أَسْلَمْتُ إِلَّا يَوْمَئِذٍ

English Translation
It was narrated from Usama ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: 'The Messenger of Allah ß sent us to al-Huraqa of Juhayna. We attacked them at dawn and defeated them. A man from among them, when he advanced against the Muslims, would say: "There is no god but Allah." One of the Ansar killed him, and when we came back, the Prophet ß was told. He said: "O so-and-so, did you kill him after he said: There is no god but Allah?" He said: "He only said it to save his life." The Prophet ß kept repeating: "Who will excuse you before Allah when you have killed a man who said: There is no god but Allah?"'
