حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هِلَالٍ حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ قَالَ مَرَرْتُ بِنَبِيِّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى ال

لَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَتَسَحَّرُ يَأْكُلُ تَمْرًا فَقَالَ تَعَالَ فَكُلْ فَقُلْتُ إِنِّي أُرِيدُ الصَّوْمَ فَقَالَ وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ مَا تُرِيدُ فَأَكَلْنَا ثُمَّ قُمْنَا إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ فَكَانَ بَيْنَ مَا أَكَلْنَا وَبَيْنَ أَنْ قُمْنَا إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ قَدْرُ مَا يَقْرَأُ الرَّجُلُ خَمْسِينَ آيَةً

English Translation

It was narrated from Zayd ibn Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: 'I passed by the Prophet of Allah ß while he was eating suhur (pre-dawn meal) with dates. He said: "Come and eat." I said: "I intend to fast." He said: "And I am also fasting."'
