English Translation
It was narrated from Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ß was asked about a lost item (luqata). He said: 'Announce it for a year. If its owner comes, give it to him; otherwise it belongs to you.' He was asked about stray sheep. He said: 'It belongs to you, your brother, or the wolf.' He was asked about stray camels. He said: 'Why does that concern you? It has its water pouches and its hooves, and it will drink water and eat leaves until its owner finds it.'
