Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِي حَبِيبَةَ الطَّائِيِّ قَالَ أَوْصَى إِلَيَّ أَخِي بِطَائِفَةٍ مِنْ مَالِهِ قَالَ فَلَقِيتُ أَبَا الدَّرْدَاءِ فَقُل
ْتُ إِنَّ أَخِي أَوْصَانِي بِطَائِفَةٍ مِنْ مَالِهِ فَأَيْنَ أَضَعُهُ فِي الْفُقَرَاءِ أَوْ فِي الْمُجَاهِدِينَ أَوْ فِي الْمَسَاكِينَ قَالَ أَمَّا أَنَا فَلَوْ كُنْتُ لَمْ أَعْدِلْ بِالْمُجَاهِدِينَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَثَلُ الَّذِي يُعْتِقُ عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ مَثَلُ الَّذِي يُهْدِي إِذَا شَبِعَ

English Translation
It was narrated from Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was asked about where to spend an inheritance bequeathed for charity — to the poor, the fighters, or the destitute. He said: 'I would put it in the path of Allah (jihad), for I heard the Messenger of Allah ß say: "A horse in the path of Allah is the best charity."'
