حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ شَقِيقٍ حَدَّثَنَا سَمُرَةُ بْنُ سَهْمٍ قَالَ نَزَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي هَاشِمِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ وَهُوَ طَعِينٌ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ مُعَاوِيَةُ يَعُودُهُ فَبَكَى فَقَالَ لَهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ مَا يُبْكِيكَ أَوَجَعٌ يَشْتَزُّكَ أَمْ عَلَى الدُّنْيَ
ا فَقَدْ ذَهَبَ صَفْوُهَا فَقَالَ عَلَى كُلٍّ لَا وَلَكِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ عَهْدًا فَوَدِدْتُ أَنِّي اتَّبَعْتُهُ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَعَلَّكَ أَنْ تُدْرِكَ أَمْوَالًا تُقْسَمُ بَيْنَ أَقْوَامٍ وَإِنَّمَا يَكْفِيكَ مِنْ جَمْعِ الْمَالِ خَادِمٌ وَمَرْكَبٌ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى فَوَجَدْتُ فَجَمَعْتُ

English Translation
It was narrated from Samura ibn Sahm (may Allah be pleased with him) that he stayed with Abu Hashim ibn 'Utbah who was wounded with a spear. Mu'awiyah visited him and found him weeping. He said: 'O uncle, what makes you weep? Is it pain, or longing for the world?' He said: 'No, not either. Rather, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had made a covenant with me, and I wish I had followed it. He ﷺ said: You may reach wealth that is distributed among peoples, and all you need from amassing wealth is a servant and a mount for the path of Allah.'
