He ﷺ said: 'Allah — there is no god but He, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all — the Verse of the Throne.' He asked: 'O Prophet of Allah, which martyr is best?' He ﷺ said: 'One whose blood is shed and whose horse is hamstrung.' He asked: 'O Prophet of Allah, which slaves to free are best?' He ﷺ said: 'The most expensive and the most precious to their owners.' He asked: 'O Prophet of Allah, which prophet came first?' He ﷺ said: 'Adam.' He asked: 'O Prophet of Allah, was Adam a prophet?' He ﷺ said: 'Yes, a prophet spoken to directly, whom Allah created with His Hand, then blew into him his spirit, then said to him: O Adam, face Me.' He asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, how many prophets were there in total?' The Prophet ﷺ raised his head and his face had turned red with anger. He said: 'May your mother grieve for you! These Jews and Christians have the Mushafs among them, yet they did not hold on to a single letter from what their prophets brought them. Know that among the ways knowledge departs is that those who carry it depart.' He said this three times.
