حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا فِي مَسِيرٍ لَهُمْ فَرَأَيْتُ حِمَارَ وَحْشٍ فَرَكِبْتُ فَرَسًا وَأَخَذْتُ الرُّمْحَ فَقَتَلْتُهُ قَالَ وَفِينَا الْمُحْرِمُ قَالَ فَأ
َكَلُوا مِنْهُ قَالَ فَأَشْفَقُوا قَالَ فَسَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْ قَالَ فَسُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَشَرْتُمْ أَوْ أَعَنْتُمْ أَوْ أَصِدْتُمْ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ لَا أَدْرِي قَالَ أَعَنْتُمْ أَوْ أَصِدْتُمْ ثُمَّ قَالُوا لَا فَأَمَرَهُمْ بِأَكْلِهِ

English Translation
It was narrated from Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he hunted a wild donkey while not in ihram while the others were in ihram. They ate from it and then felt uneasy. He asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about it, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Did you signal, help, or hunt it?' Shu'bah said: 'I do not know if he said helped or hunted.' They said no, and so he commanded them to eat it.
