حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ سَمِعَ سَهْلَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ شَهِدَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْمُتَلَاعِنَيْنِ فَتَلَاعَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلّ

َى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا ابْنُ خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنْ أَمْسَكْتُهَا فَقَدْ كَذَبْتُ عَلَيْهَا قَالَ فَجَاءَتْ بِهِ لِلَّذِي كَانَ يَكْرَهُ

English Translation

It was narrated from Sahl ibn Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) that he witnessed the Prophet ﷺ when two people performed li'an (mutual imprecation for an accusation of adultery). Sahl said: 'I was fifteen years old at the time.' The husband said: 'O Messenger of Allah, if I keep her I have lied about her.' And the child was born resembling the one the husband had feared.
