حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَضْرِبُ غُل
َامًا لَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاللَّهِ لَلَّهُ أَقْدَرُ عَلَيْكَ مِنْكَ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ فَإِنِّي أُعْتِقُهُ لِوَجْهِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

English Translation
It was narrated from Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was beating a slave of his when he heard behind him: 'Know, O Abu Mas'ud!' He turned around to find the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said: 'By Allah, Allah has more power over you than you have over this slave.' He said: 'O Prophet of Allah, I free him for the sake of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.'
