Hadith #84
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ بَيْنَا أَنَا أَضْرِبُ مَمْلُوكًا لِي إِذَا رَجُلٌ يُنَادِي مِنْ خَلْفِي اعْلَمْ يَا أَبَا مَسْعُودٍ اعْلَ
مْ يَا أَبَا مَسْعُودٍ فَالْتَفَتُّ فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ وَاللَّهِ لَلَّهُ أَقْدَرُ عَلَيْكَ مِنْكَ عَلَى هَذَا قَالَ فَحَلَفْتُ لَا أَضْرِبُ مَمْلُوكًا لِي أَبَدًا

English Translation
It was narrated from Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: 'While I was beating a slave of mine, I heard from behind me: Know, O Abu Mas'ud! I turned and it was the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: By Allah, Allah has more power over you than you have over this slave. I swore that I would never strike a slave of mine ever again.'
