حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ وَسَمِعْتُهُ أَنَا مِنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ جُمَيعٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الطُّفَيْلِ حَدَّثَنَا حُذَيْفَةُ بْنُ الْيَمَانِ قَالَ مَا مَنَعَنِي أَنْ أَشْهَدَ بَدْرًا إِلَّا أَنِّي خَرَجْتُ أَنَا وَأَبِي حُسِيْلٍ فَأَخَذَنَا كُفَّارُ قُرَيْشٍ فَقَالُوا إِنَّكُمْ تُرِ
يدُونَ مُحَمَّدًا قُلْنَا مَا نُرِيدُ إِلَّا الْمَدِينَةَ فَأَخَذُوا مِنَّا عَهْدَ اللَّهِ وَمِيثَاقَهُ لَنَنْصَرِفَنَّ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ وَلَا نُقَاتِلُ مَعَهُ فَأَتَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَخْبَرْنَاهُ الْخَبَرَ فَقَالَ انْصَرِفَا نَفِي بِعَهْدِهِمْ وَنَسْتَعِينُ اللَّهَ عَلَيْهِمْ

English Translation
It was narrated from Hudhayfa ibn al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: 'The only thing that prevented me from attending Badr was that I went out with my father Husayl and the disbelievers of Quraysh captured us. They said: "You intend to go to Muhammad." We said: "We intend only to go to Madinah." They took from us a covenant by Allah and His pledge that we would return to Madinah and not fight alongside him. We came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him...' and he mentioned that the Prophet ﷺ honoured their pledge.
