Hadith #79
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ حُبَابٍ حَدَّثَنِي حُسَيْنُ بْنُ وَاقِدٍ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بُرَيْدَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي بُرَيْدَةَ يَقُولُ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُنَا فَجَاءَ الْحَسَنُ وَالْحُسَيْنُ عَلَيْ
هِمَا قَمِيصَانِ أَحْمَرَانِ يَمْشِيَانِ وَيَعْثُرَانِ فَنَزَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ الْمِنْبَرِ فَحَمَلَهُمَا فَوَضَعَهُمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ صَدَقَ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ { إِنَّمَا أَمْوَالُكُمْ وَأَوْلَادُكُمْ فِتْنَةٌ } نَظَرْتُ إِلَى هَذَيْنِ الصَّبِيَّيْنِ يَمْشِيَانِ وَيَعْثُرَانِ فَلَمْ أَصْبِرْ حَتَّى قَطَعْتُ حَدِيثِي وَرَفَعْتُهُمَا

English Translation
It was narrated from Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was delivering a sermon when al-Hasan and al-Husayn came, wearing two red shirts, walking and stumbling. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ descended from the minbar, picked them up, and placed them before him, then said: 'Allah and His Messenger have spoken truly: "Your wealth and your children are but a trial." I looked at these two boys walking and stumbling and I could not wait, so I interrupted my sermon and picked them up.'
