حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي

عُقَيْلُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَتْ تَقُولُ مَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُسَبِّحُ سُبْحَةَ الضُّحَى وَكَانَتْ عَائِشَةُ تُسَبِّحُهَا وَكَانَتْ تَقُولُ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَرَكَ كَثِيرًا مِنْ الْعَمَلِ خَشْيَةَ أَنْ يَسْتَنَّ النَّاسُ بِهِ فَيُفْرَضَ عَلَيْهِمْ

English Translation

It was narrated from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), wife of the Prophet ﷺ, that she said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not pray the Duha prayer. I pray it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ abandoned many acts of worship out of fear that people would follow him in them and they would become obligatory upon them.'
