حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ أَخْبَرَنَا هِشَامٌ الدَّسْتُوَائِيُّ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ قَارِظٍ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ وَهُوَ مَرِيضٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ وَصَلَتْكَ رَحِمٌ إِنَّ ال
نَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنَا الرَّحْمَنُ خَلَقْتُ الرَّحِمَ وَشَقَقْتُ لَهَا مِنْ اسْمِي فَمَنْ يَصِلْهَا أَصِلْهُ وَمَنْ يَقْطَعْهَا أَقْطَعْهُ فَأَبُتَّهُ أَوْ قَالَ مَنْ يَبُتَّهَا أَبُتَّهُ

English Translation
'Abdullah ibn Qariz narrated that he entered upon 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Awf (رضي الله عنه) while he was ill, and said to him: 'You have reached old age and wealth, and I fear you may be delayed [from Paradise] for it.' 'Abd al-Rahman said: 'I have been promised — Abu Bakr was promised, and 'Umar was promised — and I will not cease to strive, seeking what they sought, until I join them. For indeed, I fear being delayed from them.'
