Isma'il narrated to us, Ibn 'Awn informed us, from Raja' ibn Haywah, who said: Ya'la ibn 'Uqbah consummated his marriage during Ramadan and woke up in a state of major ritual impurity. He met Abu Hurayrah and asked him, and he said: "Break your fast." He said: "Shall I not fast this day and make it up on another day?" He said: "Break your fast." So he went to Marwan and told him. Marwan sent Abu Bakr ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Harith to the Mother of the Believers, and he asked her. She said: "He ﷺ used to wake up among us in a state of major ritual impurity, not from a wet dream, and then fast that day." So he returned to Marwan and told him. He said: "Go and confront Abu Hurayrah with it." He said: "He is a neighbor, a neighbor!" He said: "I insist that you confront him with it." So he met him and told him. Abu Hurayrah said: "I did not hear it from the Prophet ﷺ directly. Al-Fadl ibn 'Abbas informed me of it." He said: After that, I met Raja' and asked: "The hadith of Ya'la — who narrated it to you?" He said: "He narrated it to me himself."
