حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ أَخْبَرَنَا عَوْفٌ عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلّ
َمَ غَدَاةَ جَمْعٍ هَلُمَّ الْقُطْ لِي فَلَقَطْتُ لَهُ حَصَيَاتٍ مِنْ حَصَى الْخَذْفِ فَلَمَّا وَضَعَهُنَّ فِي يَدِهِ قَالَ نَعَمْ بِأَمْثَالِ هَؤُلَاءِ وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَالْغُلُوَّ فِي الدِّينِ فَإِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ بِالْغُلُوِّ فِي الدِّينِ

English Translation
Hushaym narrated to us, 'Awf informed us, from Ziyad ibn Husayn, from Abu al-'Aliyah, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: "the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me on the morning of Muzdalifah: 'Come, pick up pebbles for me.' So I picked up pebbles for him the size of date stones. When he placed them in his hand, he said: 'Yes, with the likes of these. And beware of extremism in the religion, for those who came before you were destroyed by extremism in the religion.'"
