حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا فِطْرٌ عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ وَاثِلَةَ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ إِنَّ قَوْمَكَ يَ
زْعُمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ رَمَلَ وَأَنَّهَا سُنَّةٌ قَالَ صَدَقَ قَوْمِي وَكَذَبُوا قَدْ رَمَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَيْسَتْ بِسُنَّةٍ وَلَكِنَّهُ قَدِمَ وَالْمُشْرِكُونَ عَلَى جَبَلِ قُعَيْقِعَانَ فَتَحَدَّثُوا أَنَّ بِهِ وَبِأَصْحَابِهِ هَزْلًا وَجَهْدًا وَشِدَّةً فَأَمَرَ بِهِمْ فَرَمَلُوا بِالْبَيْتِ لِيُرِيَهُمْ أَنَّهُمْ لَمْ يُصِبْهُمْ جَهْدٌ

English Translation
Muhammad ibn 'Ubayd narrated from Fitr, from 'Amir ibn Wathilah, who said: I said to Ibn 'Abbas: 'Your people claim that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ramal and that it is a sunnah.' He said: 'My people spoke truth and spoke falsehood. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did perform ramal, but it is not a (permanent) sunnah. He came while the polytheists were on Mount Qu'ayqi'an, and they were saying that he and his Companions were weakened and exhausted and in hardship. So he commanded them to perform ramal around the House to show them that they had not been afflicted with exhaustion.'
