Hadith #84

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ مِسْمَارٍ عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَهُ وَخَلَّفَهُ فِي بَعْضِ مَغَازِيهِ فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ أَتُخَلِّفُنِي مَعَ النِّسَاءِ وَالصِّبْيَانِ قَالَ يَا عَلِيُّ أَمَا تَرْضَى أَنْ تَكُونَ مِنِّي بِمَنْزِلَةِ هَارُونَ مِنْ مُوسَى إِلَّا أَنَّهُ لَا نُبُوَّةَ بَعْدِي وَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ لَأُعْطِيَنَّ الرَّايَةَ رَجُلًا يُحِبُّ اللَّهَ وَرَ
سُولَهُ وَيُحِبُّهُ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ فَتَطَاوَلْنَا لَهَا فَقَالَ ادْعُوا لِي عَلِيًّا فَأُتِيَ بِهِ أَرْمَدَ فَبَصَقَ فِي عَيْنِهِ وَدَفَعَ الرَّايَةَ إِلَيْهِ فَفَتَحَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَلَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ { نَدْعُ أَبْنَاءَنَا وَأَبْنَاءَكُمْ } دَعَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلِيًّا وَفَاطِمَةَ وَحَسَنًا وَحُسَيْنًا فَقَالَ اللَّهُمَّ هَؤُلَاءِ أَهْلِي

English Translation
Sa'd (رضي الله عنه) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying to 'Ali when he left him behind in one of his expeditions. 'Ali said: 'You leave me behind with the women and children?' He said: 'O 'Ali, are you not pleased to be in the same position to me as Harun was to Musa, except that there is no prophethood after me?' And I heard him say on the Day of Khaybar: 'I shall give the banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger and whom Allah and His Messenger love.' We all craned our necks for it. He said: 'Call 'Ali for me.' He was brought with sore eyes, and the Prophet ﷺ spat in his eyes and handed the banner to him, and Allah granted him victory. And when the verse was revealed: Let us call our sons and your sons, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called 'Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn and said: 'O Allah, these are my family.'
