حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ وَخَلَفُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا إِسْ
رَائِيلُ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ مَرَّ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ عَلَى نَفَرٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَسُوقُ غَنَمًا لَهُ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالُوا مَا سَلَّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِلَّا لِيَتَعَوَّذَ مِنْكُمْ فَعَمَدُوا إِلَيْهِ فَقَتَلُوهُ وَأَخَذُوا غَنَمَهُ فَأَتَوْا بِهَا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ { يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا ضَرَبْتُمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَتَبَيَّنُوا وَلَا تَقُولُوا لِمَنْ أَلْقَى إِلَيْكُمْ السَّلَامَ لَسْتَ مُؤْمِنًا } إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةَ

English Translation
Husayn ibn Muhammad and Khalaf ibn al-Walid both (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that isra'il narrated to us, from Simak, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) who said: A man from Banu Sulaym passed by a group of the Prophet ﷺ's ﷺ companions while he had a flock of sheep. He greeted them with salam. They said: 'He only greeted you to seek protection.' So they attacked him, killed him, and took his sheep. They brought them to the Prophet ﷺ, and Allah عز وجل revealed: 'O you who have believed, when you go forth in the cause of Allah, investigate, and do not say to one who gives you a greeting of peace: You are not a believer' [An-Nisa' 4:94].
