قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ بْنُ بَهْرَامَ عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ حَضَرَتْ عِصَابَةٌ مِنْ الْيَهُودِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالُوا يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ حَدِّثْنَ
ا عَنْ خِلَالٍ نَسْأَلُكَ عَنْهُنَّ لَا يَعْلَمُهُنَّ إِلَّا نَبِيٌّ فَكَانَ فِيمَا سَأَلُوهُ أَيُّ الطَّعَامِ حَرَّمَ إِسْرَائِيلُ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تُنَزَّلَ التَّوْرَاةُ قَالَ فَأَنْشُدُكُمْ بِاللَّهِ الَّذِي أَنْزَلَ التَّوْرَاةَ عَلَى مُوسَى هَلْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ إِسْرَائِيلَ يَعْقُوبَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام مَرِضَ مَرَضًا شَدِيدًا فَطَالَ سَقَمُهُ فَنَذَرَ لِلَّهِ نَذْرًا لَئِنْ شَفَاهُ اللَّهُ مِنْ سَقَمِهِ لَيُحَرِّمَنَّ أَحَبَّ الشَّرَابِ إِلَيْهِ وَأَحَبَّ الطَّعَامِ إِلَيْهِ فَكَانَ أَحَبَّ الطَّعَامِ إِلَيْهِ لُحْمَانُ الْإِبِلِ وَأَحَبَّ الشَّرَابِ إِلَيْهِ أَلْبَانُهَا فَقَالُوا اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ

English Translation
He (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that husayn narrated to us, 'Abd al-Hamid ibn Bahram narrated to us, from Shahr ibn Hawshab who said: 'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) said: A group of Jews came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'O Abu al-Qasim, tell us about things we will ask you about — only a prophet would know them.' They asked him about the nature of the child — what determines whether it resembles the father or the mother, about sleep, and about food. He answered them, and they accepted Islam.
