English Translation
'Abdullah said: I found this hadith in my father's book. Hajjaj narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from Abu al-Safar, from Sa'id ibn Shufayy, from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) who said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was ill with his final illness, he said: 'Bring me so that I may write for you a document after which you will not go astray.' 'Umar (رضي الله عنه) said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has been overcome by pain, and we have the Book of Allah — it suffices us.' The people in the house disagreed. Some said: 'Bring what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked for.' Others agreed with 'Umar. When the noise and disagreement increased, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Leave me.'
