English Translation
Hasan ibn Musa narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from Abu Yahya, from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) that two men brought a dispute to the Prophet ﷺ. the Prophet ﷺ asked the plaintiff to present his evidence, but he had none. So he asked the defendant to swear an oath. The defendant swore by Allah besides whom there is no god. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'You have indeed done it, but you have been forgiven because of the sincerity of your declaration: La ilaha illa Allah.'
