حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو حَمْزَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ كُنْتُ غُلَامًا أَسْعَى مَعَ الصِّبْيَانِ قَالَ فَالْتَفَتُّ فَإِذَا نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَلْفِي مُقْبِلًا فَقُلْتُ مَا جَاءَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَل
َّمَ إِلَّا إِلَيَّ قَالَ فَسَعَيْتُ حَتَّى أَخْتَبِئَ وَرَاءَ بَابِ دَارٍ قَالَ فَلَمْ أَشْعُرْ حَتَّى تَنَاوَلَنِي قَالَ فَأَخَذَ بِقَفَايَ فَحَطَأَنِي حَطْأَةً قَالَ اذْهَبْ فَادْعُ لِي مُعَاوِيَةَ وَكَانَ كَاتِبَهُ قَالَ فَسَعَيْتُ فَقُلْتُ أَجِبْ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَإِنَّهُ عَلَى حَاجَةٍ

English Translation
'Affan narrated to us, Abu 'Awanah narrated to us, he said Abu Hamzah informed us, he said I heard Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) saying: I was a boy running with the other children. I turned around, and there was the Prophet ﷺ of Allah ﷺ behind me. I said: 'He must have been sent to someone other than me.' He said: Then the Prophet ﷺ struck me between my shoulders with his hand and said: 'O Allah, give him understanding in the religion and teach him the interpretation (of the Quran).'
