English Translation

'Ali ibn 'Asim narrated to us, who said: Dawud said: 'Ikrimah narrated to us, from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما), who said: Some of the captives on the Day of Badr had no ransom, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made their ransom that they teach the children of the Ansar how to write. He said: One day a boy came crying to his father. He said: "What is the matter?" He said: "My teacher hit me." The father said: "The wretch! Seeking revenge for (the defeat at) Badr! By Allah, you will never go to him again."
