حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ سَالِمٍ أَبُو جَهْضَمٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَفِتْيَةٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ عَلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ فَسَأَلُوهُ هَ
لْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ قَالَ لَا قَالَ فَقَالُوا فَلَعَلَّهُ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِي نَفْسِهِ قَالَ خَمْشًا هَذِهِ شَرٌّ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ عَبْدًا مَأْمُورًا بَلَّغَ مَا أُرْسِلَ بِهِ وَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يَخُصَّنَا دُونَ النَّاسِ إِلَّا بِثَلَاثٍ أَمَرَنَا أَنْ نُسْبِغَ الْوُضُوءَ وَلَا نَأْكُلَ الصَّدَقَةَ وَلَا نُنْزِيَ حِمَارًا عَلَى فَرَسٍ

English Translation
'Affan narrated to us, Wuhayb narrated to us, Musa ibn Salim Abu Jahdham narrated to us, 'Abdullah ibn 'Ubaydullah ibn 'Abbas narrated to us, who said: I and some young men of Quraysh went to Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما). They asked him: "Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recite (audibly) in Dhuhr and 'Asr?" He said: "No." They said: "Perhaps he was reciting to himself (silently)." He said: "A scratch (on your faces)! This is worse. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was a servant who was commanded. He conveyed what he was sent with. He did not single us out from among the people except with three things: he commanded us to perform wudu thoroughly, not to eat from the charity (sadaqah), and not to mate a donkey with a mare."
