أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا أَسْبَاطٌ، عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ، عَنْ مَطَرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي شَيْخٍ، قَالَ بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ مَعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ

فِي بَعْضِ حَجَّاتِهِ إِذْ جَمَعَ رَهْطًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ لَهُمْ أَلَسْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم نَهَى عَنْ لُبْسِ الذَّهَبِ إِلاَّ مُقَطَّعًا قَالُوا اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ . خَالَفَهُ يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَلَى اخْتِلاَفٍ بَيْنَ أَصْحَابِهِ عَلَيْهِ .

English Translation

Abu Shaikh (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that "While we were with Mu'awiyah on one of his pilgrimages, he gathered together a group of the Companions of Muhammad [SAW] and said to them: 'Do you not know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ [SAW] forbade wearing gold unless it was broken (into smaller pieces)?' They said: 'By Allah, yes
