IslamWiki Explanation — IslamWiki Scholarly Team

This hadith warns that the most evil person in Allah's sight on the Day of Judgment will be the man who has relations with his wife, or the wife who has relations with her husband, and then spreads what occurred between them. This is sometimes referred to as 'siru al-mufarrasha' (the secret of the bed). Ibn Uthaymin explains that this falls under the broader obligation of maintaining the privacy and dignity of marital relations. The comparison to 'a male donkey' who performs this act in public is meant to convey the extreme unseemliness of exposing what Allah has made private. Ibn Allan notes that the wisdom behind this prohibition is threefold: protecting the dignity of both spouses, preserving the sanctity of the marital bond, and maintaining modesty in speech. This hadith directly relates to hayaa because spreading intimate details is the antithesis of modesty. Scholars emphasize that this prohibition applies to both spouses equally.
