This hadith reports that the Prophet ﷺ came to Anas ibn Malik while he was playing with other children, greeted them all, then took Anas aside for an errand. Anas says he was late returning because of something his mother had said to him in private. Ibn Uthaymin notes the significance: even when dealing with children, the Prophet ﷺ maintained complete courtesy — greeting them, not singling out Anas from the group in a way that would embarrass him, and treating the interaction with full dignity. This reflects hayaa in social interactions. The hadith also demonstrates the Prophet's ﷺ patience; he did not question why Anas was delayed or show any displeasure. The story of Anas playing with children also indicates that allowing children to play is part of a healthy upbringing.
