باب ما جاء في صفة كلام رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في الشعر

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مَرْوَانُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الطَّائِفِيِّ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الشَّرِيدِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: كُنْتُ رِدْفَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، فَأَنْشَدْتُهُ مِائَةَ قَافِيَةٍ مِنْ قَوْلِ أُمَيَّ
ةَ بْنِ أَبِي الصَّلْتِ الثَّقَفِيِّ، كُلَّمَا أَنْشَدْتُهُ بَيْتًا، قَالَ لِيَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم: هِيهْ حَتَّى أَنْشَدْتُهُ مِائَةً يَعْنِي بَيْتًا، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم: إِنْ كَادَ لَيُسْلِمُ.

English Translation
'Amr ibn ash-Sharid reported that his father said: "As I rode behind the Prophet ﷺ (Allah bless him and give him peace), I recited to him a hundred poetic verses, composed by Umayya ibn Abi’s-Salt. Whenever I recited a verse to him, the Prophet ﷺ (Allah bless him and give him peace) said to me: “Recite more!” until I had recited a hundred, meaning verses,to him.”’ the Prophet ﷺ (Allah bless him and give him peace) therefore said: 'He was surely near to embracing Islam!'"
