Amr ibn Maimun al-Awdi was a senior Tabi'i scholar and hadith narrator who lived through the era of the Prophet ﷺ without meeting him, then went on to meet numerous Companions and become one of the connecting links between the prophetic era and the Tabi'in scholarly tradition. He narrated from major Companions including Umar ibn al-Khattab, Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, Ali ibn Abi Talib, Muadh ibn Jabal, and Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with them). He was present at the funeral prayer of Umar ibn al-Khattab after his assassination and narrated a detailed account of Umar's final moments and the appointment of the shura council — a narration preserved in Sahih al-Bukhari that represents one of the most important historical records of that transition. He settled in Kufa and was considered a highly reliable Tabi'i narrator. His reports are found in Sahih al-Bukhari and the major Sunan collections. He passed away around 74 AH.
