Biography

Abu al-Abbas Abd Allah ibn Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi was the Prophet's ﷺ cousin (the son of his uncle al-'Abbas). The Prophet ﷺ embraced him as a child and prayed: 'O Allah, grant him deep understanding in religion and teach him the interpretation of the Quran.' He became the foremost Quranic scholar, known as 'the Sea' (al-Bahr) of knowledge for his depth, 'Habr al-Ummah' (the Scholar of the Ummah), and 'Tarjuman al-Quran' (the Interpreter of the Quran). He narrated over 1,660 hadith. He was the ancestor of the Abbasid dynasty. He died in Ta'if in 68 AH.
